Yes, 99.9% of treks successfully locate gorillas. Trackers spend all day with the gorillas and know their exact locations, communicating with your guide to lead you directly to them.
Exactly one hour. This time limit is enforced to balance tourism with conservation and minimize stress on the gorilla families.
You can choose easy, medium, or hard based on your fitness level. Easy treks can be as short as 3 miles round trip with minimal elevation gain. Harder options may involve full-day expeditions.
Permits are generally non-refundable if you cancel. However, if your allocated gorilla group moves unexpectedly and you cannot trek, you will be offered the choice of trying again the next day or receiving a full refund.
The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is 15 years. This is strictly enforced by the Rwanda Development Board and all tour operators.
Sturdy hiking boots, long trousers, a waterproof jacket, gardening gloves, a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, snacks, and your camera. Porters are available for hire at the park entrance.
