Akagera National Park

Akagera National Park is Rwanda’s Big Five safari destination, located in the eastern part of the country along the Tanzanian border. The park has undergone an impressive revival since the 1994 genocide and now supports thriving populations of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino.

Covering 1,122 square kilometers, Akagera features diverse landscapes from savannah plains to lakes and wetlands. The park is home to over 490 bird species, giraffes, zebras, and hippos.

Visitors can enjoy game drives, boat safaris on Lake Ihema, and guided bush walks. The park offers self-drive options and guided tours with experienced rangers.
