Volcanoes National Park

Volcanoes National Park is Rwanda’s premier wildlife destination and one of the best places in the world to see endangered mountain gorillas. Located in the Virunga Mountains, this mist-covered rainforest is home to 12 habituated gorilla families available for trekking.

The park protects five of the eight Virunga Volcanoes: Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga, and Sabyinyo. It was the first national park established in Africa in 1925.

Beyond gorilla trekking, visitors can hike to the Dian Fossey grave site, track golden monkeys, climb Mount Bisoke, and participate in the annual Kwita Izina gorilla naming ceremony held every September.
